Trustees Required – Council of Somali Organisations
Organisation background:
The
Council of Somali Organisations is a company limited by guarantee, and is a newly
formed organisation, currently hosted by Ocean Somali Community Association. To
date it has been managed by an active and dedicated board of Trustees, and a
separate advisory panel.
Our vision is to achieve cohesive, integrated and
successful Somali communities in London
Our Mission is to
provide a strong, collective and credible voice for the Somali communities in
London and eventually, across the UK
We are currently in the
process of recruiting up to 11 trustees with an interest in Community
Development specifically in the Somali community
Primary duties:
The Trustees will be required
to lead the organisation in a visionary manner and be responsible for the
overall development and fundraising strategy.
The Trustees will be required
to attend up to 8 management committee meetings for up to 2 hours during the
daytime or evenings on a monthly or bi-monthly basis (to be agreed).
This is a voluntary role
(without salary), however expenses will be paid for travel and there will be
free trustee training (provided by a third party organisation).
You will not be expected to
carryout any admin or managerial duties such as writing governance policies,
this will be part of the Director duties, however, you and the management
committee will be responsible for approving or reviewing such work produced by
the Director.
To be eligible you must be over the age of
18 and a UK resident. You can be a representative of a voluntary/community
organisation, representative of a business
or an individual with relevant skills and expertise.
Required qualifications:
We require Trustees to be
experienced in one or more of the following backgrounds:

Setting
targets, monitoring and evaluating performance in non-profit organisations
o
Fundraising
o
Budget
preparation
o
Financial
management/financial monitoring
o
Legal
matters
o
Human
Resources
o
Marketing
and Communications
o
Influencing
policy and policy makers
o
Community
engagement
o
You
can think strategically and contribute towards the development of a clear
strategic vision
